The Vajont landslide and wall, Erto and Casso

Between the 1950s and 1960s, a few hundred metres upstream from the confluence with the Piave river, the Vajont stream was dammed for hydroelectric purposes. This plant never officially came into operation because a gigantic landslide partially filled the reservoir causing a terrible flood and almost 2,000 victims.
