The Landris

There are plenty of options for anyone who wants to explore the area looking for places of natural and environmental interest. As you ascend from Maniago towards the Colvera Valley, either by car or along the new cycle path that runs alongside the tunnels, you can admire several spectacular environments created over the millennia by the waters of the Colvera creek, such as the Bus da lis Pignatis (Friulian, canyon of the pots, ed.), the gorge known as the Bus del Colvera (Friulian, Colvera canyon, ed.), and on into the Landris Municipal Park.

Karst phenomena along the valley have formed large, fascinating and unique caves, including the ones called Landri viert and Landri scur. The site’s toponyms derive from the caves in the very area: in the local Friulian dialect landri means cave; viert means open, wide and scur dark, deep.

Legends say that these places are home to extraordinary beings such as the Aganis, mythical water creatures with female features.
