As it is characterised by a smooth road network surrounded by nature, the area of Maniago is ideal for cycling, a means of transportation widely used by its inhabitants.
However, in recent years the bicycle network has grown a lot, both with regard to facilities on the FVG3 bike route, that crosses the city, and in terms of intra-city connections.
The FVG3 bike route crosses Friuli Venezia Giulia from Gorizia and Cividale in the east to Budoia, in the west, passing along the Pordenone foothills.
Interest in biking sports has also grown over the last few years: Mount Jouf has become a destination for mountain bike enthusiasts thanks to the dense network of paths, mule tracks and routes that have been created over time.
From Maniago you can easily reach the Colvera Valley by bike, via the recent “Landris” cycle path, that runs alongside the tunnels of the main road thus making your bike ride safe. Once there, heading for Casasola, you can bike on to Meduno and the Tramontina Valley. If you go towards Poffabro, instead, you can take the Pala Barzana road and pass into the Cellina valley at Andreis. This way you avoid biking through the approx. 4 km (2.5 mi)-long tunnel from Lake Ravedis.
In addition to major events, the city has been working hard on promoting cycling and, thanks to its 12 km (7.5 mi) of cycle lanes, it has been awarded the title of “Comune ciclabile” (bike-friendly municipality) by the Italian Federation of Friends of the Bicycle since 2017. It is an award acknowledging the commitment of municipalities to cycling tourism, urban mobility, infrastructural works and promotional activities to encourage cycling at all levels.
