“Par Crous” is the phrase in Friulian used in Andreis, Barcis and Maniago for “crossing the La Croce pass”, along the ancient mule track that joined the Cellina valley to the plain of Maniago.
The old La Croce Pass road, the only access to the Cellina valley till a century ago, connected Maniagolibero to the villages of Andreis, Barcis, Cimolais, Claut and Erto. It played a social, cultural and economic role of utmost importance for the people of these communities, otherwise forced into extreme isolation by the area’s orography and morphology, as it is enclosed between the peaks of the Carnic Prealps and isolated in the valley by the Cellina gorge.
